The Chinese Committee on ICIMOD (CNICIMOD) set up in 2006 marks a milestone for closer cooperation in research and management of mountains between China and ICIMOD. CNICIMOD is hosted by CAS, the ICIMOD nodal organization in China, with the secretariat office located in IMHE. In addition, there are two branch offices of CNICIMOD located in the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming, and the Tibet Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sciences, Lhasa. The Secretariat gathers and compiles information on ICIMOD/China initiatives in integrated mountain development, which is disseminated through newsletters, and facilitates exchange.
Objective and Mission
CNICIMOD is the national committee representing ICIMOD’s collaborative partners in China. It is a regional organization covering western China committed to mountain research and development. Together with other partners, CNICIMOD will bring together Chinese technological workers, government organizations, and NGOs to promote scientific and technological exchange and collaboration between China and its circumjacent countries in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region, and to increase contributions to environmental conservation and sustainable development in the region, using the platform of ICIMOD regional collaboration. CNICIMOD’s mission is to build prosperous and secure mountain communities committed to peace, equity, and environmental sustainability.
