Recently,Hairriddin Abdurahimov,the Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situation and Civil Defense of Republic of Tajikistan visited the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS(IMHE), accompanied by inspector Qi Xuesen from Office of Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Luo Pingen, deputy director of Department of Civil affairs of Sichuan Province,

On behalf of IMHE, Deng Wei, director of IMHE expressed warm welcome to visitors. Xiong Donghong, deputy director of Science and Technology Department, introduced IMHE’s research works, historical contribution in debris flow survey and establishment of debris flow discipline of China, key project of mountain hazards prevention and control, ecology construction at upper reach of the Yangtze River and International aid and disaster mitigation, he highlighted research progress and achievement in the key theory and technology of mountain hazards prevention and mitigation, utility of debris flow and landslide warning and forecasting system, earth surface process and ecological regulation in the upper reach of the Yangtze River, and scientific research and emergency rescue in disaster area of Wenchuan and Zhouqu in Sichuan and Gansu province respectively, as well as international cooperation with Russia in debris flow research in recent years.

Abdurahimov showed great interest in technology research and system utility in mountain hazards mitigation, and introduced the general situation of Tajikistan, pointed out that the land area of his country is more than 140 thousand square kilometers, and mountain area account for 93% of total land area . He hoped to learn the advanced technology and experience in mountain hazards warning and emergency prevention from China, and expressed his willing to enhance the programme cooperation and talent cultivation and exchange with IMHE and other Chinese research institution. Deng Wei hoped to further scientific cooperation with Tajikistan with the aid of Ministry of Civil Affairs of China to expand international impact of China in mountain hazards scientific research and prevention.

After visiting the newly completed exhibition hall of science and technology Abdurahimov had a further understanding of achievement of IMHE in mountain hazards scientific research and prevention. He wrote an inscription with great praise to may IMHE make great scientific and technological achievements to serve the people.
