A new scientific achievement of landslide research in Three Gorges Reservoir came out recently. With the support of International Cooperation Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the book of “Landslide Hazard Assessment after Water Storage in Three Gorges Reservoir” is published formally by Science Press, which is completed by the group leaded by Professor Qiao Jianping from Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS (IMHE) for five years.
The water level of Three Gorges Reservoir Project had reached to design standard 175m, in October, 2010. The main problem of this well-known project is that whether geological disaster could become more serious after water storage. To meet the needs of the national development strategy, Qiao’s group selected Wanzhou Section of Three Gorges Reservoir as the study area to solve this problem since the year 2000. This book is a complete summary to their past twelve years’ work and mainly discussed the reservoir-landslide development tendency and hazard spatial distribution after water storage and before.
The book has more than 60 million words and consists of 13 chapters. It introduces natural and geographical environment of the study area, landslides distribution regulation and character, the assessment of landslide susceptibility and typical landslide stability before water storage, landslide hazard assessment and 16 typical landslides stability changes under the condition of water fluctuation, reservoir-landslide experiment and monitoring technology, and reservoir-landslide pre-warning system development.
