The 43rd Meeting of the ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development) Board of Governors was held in Myanmar from November 27 to 30, 2012.
At ICIMOD's invitation, Dr. Deng Wei, Secretary General of CNICIMOD (Chinese Committee on ICIMOD), director of IMHE (Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS), Dr. WEI Fangqiang, Vice Secretary General of CNICIMOD, vice director of IMHE, Prof. Hu Pinghua, Head of the Secretariat Office of CNICIMOD and Dr. DONG Qi from Bureau of International Co-operation, CAS (Chinese Academy of Scienes), went to Myanmar to take part in the 43rd Meeting of the ICIMOD Board of Governors (BOG).

Meeting is in progress on the basis of the agenda and schedule, the work of ICIMOD in 2012 and the plan from 2013 to 2017 were discussed, each member country reported the situation of cooperation with ICIMOD, and some suggestions were put forward. The Meeting of ICIMOD Support Group (ISG) and Meeting of Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) also were held, and discussion on the condition of financial revenue and expenditure in 2012 and financial budget 2013 were carried on.
Dr. WEI made the China Country Report 2012 at the meeting and reviewed the work process and achievement of ICIMOD in China. In his report, Wei appreciate the works ICIMOD did in China in 2012, especially focusing on the greater Himalayan region including Tibetan Plateau and Pamir under its three strategic programme areas, (i) Sustainable Livelihoods, (ii) Ecosystem Services, (iii) Water and Hazard Management.
Moreover, in order to provide opportunities to young professionals (preferably PhD graduates) from China in the fields of Mountain Livelihoods, Water, Ecosystems Services and Geospatial Solutions, including the opportunity to get exposure to project management in an International organization and help to Increase research capacity and quality of ICIMOD as well as increase engagement of Chinese professionals within ICIMOD, the agreement “Cooperation between CAS and ICIMOD for the secondment of young Chinese professionals at ICIMOD” has been approved by both sides. Representing Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Deng was present the exchange ceremony of the agreement document.
During the meeting, Dr. Deng had a discussion about the progress of KBP (Koshi River Basin) program with Dr. Arun Shrestha, who is in charge of the division of Integrated Water and Hazard Management, ICIMOD.
