A six-people group leading by Prof. DENG Wei, Director of Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), CAS visited Tribhuvan University (TU) in Nepal on 28th August, 2013.
IMHE delegation met with TU delegation leading by Prof. Hira Bahadur Maharjan,executive vice president of TU, and the core discussion is on the assistance project of Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

Prof. DENG Wei introduced the details of cooperation project, including construction of Joint Geography Research Center of China and Nepal, construction of physical and chemical laboratory and research on the geographical process of Koshi River. Then he briefed on the preparatory work of cooperation project, such as providing cooperative research offices and laboratories. Prof. Hira Bahadur Maharjan hoped that there will be more chance to cooperate with IMHE according to this new project. They will strengthen the construction and development of Central Department of Geography, especially for the capacity building. Then he expressed his gratitude to Chinese government for their help and emphasized that the school will provide support as possible as they can. The two sides reach a consensus on the planning framework of the project finally.
Then IMHE delegation visited the laboratory, library and the classroom of Central Department of Geography of TU. Both sides hoped that the cooperation project will achieve the expectation so that the project would get continued support from Chinese government, and comprehensively promote the long-term cooperation between China and Nepal. Both sides also hoped that according to the project, they can prompt the transboundary cooperation of geography as well as provide scientific basis in the following aspects, including responding to climate change, rational use of land and water resources, mountain hazards prevention and risk management, ecology and environment protection,serving the national and regional development and so on.
At last the delegation visited the scholar apartment of international department and communicated with Chinese students.
This visit is a new beginning of the international cooperation on the mountain science field between IMHE and TU, which could be breakthrough point for scientific and technological cooperation in South Asia.
