ICIMOD-CNICIMOD Planning Workshop, co-organized by ICIMOD and CNICIMOD was held in Chengdu on 24-25th August, 2009.

CHANG Qing, Vice Director from NSFC, CAO Jinghua, Vice Director from Bureau of International Co-operation, CAS, WANG Zhenyu and DONG Qi from International Organization Division and Experts from Yunnan, Gansu, Tibet, Beijing and Sichuan attended the meeting. A five-member delegation from ICIMOD, headed by Dr. KARKI, Deputy Director General of ICIMOD, was present at the meeting.

Representatives of ICIMOD, NSFC, CAS and CNICIMOD had a talk on the planning process at the preparatory meeting held on 24th August. Prof. DENG Wei, Director General of IMHE and Secretary General of CNICIMOD, expressed welcome and thanks to every participant. CAO said in his speech that CAS will continue to focus on the work of ICIMOD to further strengthen the leadership and give stronger support to CNICIMOD to play a bigger role in international cooperation. CHANG expressed a wish to establish closer collaboration with ICIMOD at a higher lever in the future. Representatives of ICIMOD introduced the Centre’s strategy and plans at the meeting.

The workshop had presentation and group discussion on 25th August. Representatives gave a detail introduction of cooperation and discussed the implementation plan for the projects in China. The participants highly appreciated the work done by CNICIMOD since its establishment and put forward constructive suggestions.
At the closing ceremony, Dr. KARKI expressed his gratitude for the contribution of the participants and heartfelt thanks for the meticulous organization of the meeting on behalf of ICIMOD. Prof. WEI Fangqiang gave a closing remark at the closing ceremony and pointed that the meeting not only brought out useful suggestions but also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences among local institutions.
