Ding Zhongli, Vice President of CAS meets with Andreas Schild, Director General of ICIMOD in Beijing on May 13th, 2009.

Ding zhongli expressed warmly welcome to Dr.Schild. Ding said in his speech that CAS will focus on pushing forward collaboration with ICIMOD, and makinguse of the scientific and technological advantage in mountain research to promote the sustainable development of HKH region and improve the living standard. In addition to strengthen communication with each other,　 Ding hopes that ICIMOD and China will increase exchanges on visiting scholars and academic exchange and collaboration. Meantime, Ding said that we will enhance substantive cooperation and develop scientific cooperation network of the future by cultivating graduate students and sharing data with ICIMOD member countries.

Dr. Schild was totally in sympathy with Ding’s idea. Dr. Schild said ICIMOD will focus on three strategic programmes-Integrated Water and Hazard Management, Environmental Change and Ecosystem Services and Sustainable Livelihoods in future. The overall plan of ICIMOD is to develop regional cooperation, promote information sharing, raise the level of scientific research, and strengthen the support for decision-making of government, and try to win the support from society. CAS has excellent research institutions and teams on the direction of future development of ICIMOD. ICIMOD pays great attention to cooperation with CAS all the time and will continue to push forward cooperation with IMHE, ITP and other institutes. Dr. Schild hoped to strengthen cooperation with CNICIMOD and take full advantage of this platform to make greater contribution to climate change and sustainable development.

Dr. Andreas Schild and Prof. Ouyang Hua visited CNICIMOD and Dynamics Laboratory of Mountain Hazard. The two partners touched upon many concerns and reached a common consensus of strengthen cooperation with each other and issues of ICIMOD Board Meeting.
