2010-04-22

Prof. Kevin M. Scott, CAS foreign expert from United States Geological Survey in Geology and Debris Flow area, visited Dongchuan Debris Flow Observation and Research Station (DDFORS), CAS during March 27 to 31, 2010, accompanied by Prof. KANG Zhicheng and Dr. HU Kaiheng, former and current director of DDFORS.

The group systematically investigated debris flow material areas to deposition areas in Jiangjiagou Valley. They also investigated ecological environmental conditions and debris flow features along Xiaojiang River, especially the debris flow deposition areas of the conjunction of Xiaojiang River and Jinshajiang River, and the impacts of debris flow on transportation, river and ecological environment at Dabaini Gully and Xiaobaini Gully.

Prof. Scott previously visited Jiangjiagou Valley in 1991 and 1992. Twenty years later, this 75-year-old scientist visited DDFORS again. Dr. HU Kaiheng introduced the progress and development of DDFORS in recent years. Prof. Scott put forward some constructive suggestions for the development of DDFORS based on his research and experience.
