Under the invitation of Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS (IMHE), Dr. Gregory B. Greenwood visited IMHE from November 2nd-7th, 2010.

In the morning of Nov.2nd, Dr.Greenwood exchanged ideas with Prof. DENG Wei, director of IMHE, about the distribution pattern of mountain in China, the trend of future research and the present work of IMHE. Prof.CHEN Genwei, vice director of IMHE, introduced the achievements in the field of mountain hazards and environment research gained by IMHE these years. In the afternoon, Dr. Greenwood gave a report about “A Framework for Understanding the Coupled Human-Earth System in the Mountains of Monsoon Asia”. After that, Dr. Greenwood had a heated discussion with participants.
From Nov.3rd to 6th, Dr. Greenwoodvisited Alpine Ecosystem Observation and Experiment Station of Mt. Gongga (Gongga Mt. Station), accompanied by Prof. LUO Ji and Dr. YANG Yan. Prof. LUO Ji introduced the history and current situation of Gongga Mt. Station in detail. The group investigated the settlement of Tibetan, Yi and Han nationality along the Gongga Mountain. During the investigation, Dr. Greenwood discussed with Prof. WANG Genxu about the status and future development of Gongga Mt. Station. Dr. Greenwood forwarded some suggestion about the future research and international cooperation for Gongga Mt. Station.
Dr. Gregory B. Greenwood, is the director of Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), University of Bern, Switzerland. He works on promote the social ecology research in the world.
