Under the invitation of Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS (IMHE, CAS) and Key Laboratory of Mountain Hazards and Earth Surface Process, CAS, Prof. Samran Sombatpanit, past president of WASWAC (World Association of Soil and Water Conservation) and Prof. LI Rui, present president of WASWAC visited IMHE from March 9-20, 2011.

Prof. Sombatpanit gave a report about WASWAC and its works in the morning of March 16th. Two presidents discussed a lot about the future work of WASWAC with IMHE experts. Mr. Winai Wangpimool, Civil Engineer from Department of Water Resources, Thailand introduced flash flood and land slide in Thailand.
During the visit, Prof. Sombatpanit visited Wenchuan earthquake-hit areas, accompanied by Prof. CUI Peng, Director of Key Laboratory of Mountain Hazards and Earth Surface Process, CAS. CUI introduced the causes and mitigation of the secondary mountain hazards caused by earthquake and its control countermeasures.
Prof. Sombatpanit and Prof. LI Rui investigated Zhouqu, Gansu, which was deadly destroyed by debris flow on Aug. 7, 2010. Now the work of reconstruction proceeded smoothly. They also visited Hailuogou Glacier and Alpine Ecosystem Observation and Experiment Station of Mt. Gongga.
