The symposium was held under the framework of the 5-year collaborative program signed after the Wenchuan earthquake by Chengdu Institute of Mountain hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Japan Society of Erosion Control Engineering.
During the symposium, the Chinese representatives delivered plenary reports on post-quake debris flow disasters as well as their counter measures. Both sides conducted in-depth discussion on evolution of geological disasters in quake-afflicted areas, Japan’s kanto earthquake, and the sediment disasters in areas hit by Typhoon No. 12. They also agreed to further collaborative research in preventing and monitoring technologies for mountain disasters and co-promote the counter-measures against sediment disasters.
Part of the attendees paid a visit to Kyoto University and took fieldwork on erosion control engineering in Toyama city.
