International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) Consulting Meeting was held in Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), CAS on February 11, 2012.

Dr DENG Wei, director of IMHE, extended his sincere greeting to ICIMOD participants especially the new director general, Dr David Molden in his opening speech. And Dr. DENG Wei also expressed his willing to deepen further cooperation with ICIMOD in the future.

Dr WEI Fangqiang, vice director of IMHE, introduced the status of IMHE in his speech on the following aspects: the history, main research field and the Twelfth Five Year Plan of IMHE.

Dr David Molden made a presentation about the new challenges and opportunities that ICIMOD facing now, and the development strategy and work plan of ICIMOD in the coming five years.

A heat discussion about three topic, water and hazards, ecosystem services and livelihood options had been carried out during the meeting. Furthermore, some suggestions and views such as what are the most important priority areas, What are the major actions to be undertaken for each priority area,  What is the best way to promote initiatives of regional programs had been put forward by participants.

On behalf of ICIMOD, Dr WU Ning, programme manager of Environmental Change and Ecosystem Services, ICIMOD, expressed grateful thanks to all participants. Dr David Molden fully acknowledges the meeting and appreciates participants for their constructive suggestions, in addition, he expressed that ICIMOD is willing to continue further cooperation and develop a closer relationship with Chinese partners.

About 30 participants, from ICIMOD, IMHE, Chengdu Institute of Biology, CAS, the Sichuan Academy of Grassland Science, the Institute of South Asia Studies, Sichuan University, the University of Lanzhou and Chinese Committee on ICIMOD (CNICIMOD) attended the meeting.The meeting was host by CNICIMOD and presided over by Dr OUYANG Hua , programme manager of Integrated Water and Hazards Management ,ICIMOD.
