During the visit, Cheng introduced the basic status of CAS institutes, and the IMHE research work on flash flood disaster warning and environmental change monitoring. Cheng also made a report titled “Climate Change and Human Activity Impacts to Floods and Real-time Forecast Model”. After the meeting, both sides discussed the management system of hydrologic forecasting, forecast technology and model characteristics of Australia and China.

The business scope of the Meteorological Administration of Australia and its subunits includes climate prediction, meteorological monitoring, weather forecasting and hydrologic forecasting. Among these, hydrologic forecasting and flood warning plays an important role in social service. The technology connected with the rainfall data, which can forecast the water level process 3 to 24 hours in advance and release the prediction results on line. Therefore, hydrologic forecasting is an important service provided by State Meteorological Administration, and is highly concerned by society and public. Although they are using traditional hydrologic forecasting ways in the work, but the refinement and real-time of their work is worth learning.
