Prof. Frank Berninger and Dr. Jukka Pumpanen from University of Helsinki, Finland visited Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), CAS from April 21 to May 5, 2013.

Prof. Frank Berninger investigated research project on mountain forest ecosystem locating observation under the program of State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the P.R. of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences, and discussed the detailed arrangement and plan of field experiment. Based on his research work, Prof. Frank Berninger gave a report titled “Carbon balances of trees and soils along chronosequences”.

Prof. Frank Berninger received his PhD in 1997 from the University of Helsinki in Finland, and get funding from Finland Academy of Sciences in 2000. He became a forest ecology professor at University of Montreal, Canada in 2004, and back to University of Helsinki, Finland in September, 2010. Currently, Prof. Frank is working on tree physiology and forest ecosystem, and he is the associate editor of “Canadian journal of forest research”.
