Prof. Taku Nishimurafrom the University of Tokyo Visits IMHE TEXT SIZE: A A A
2013-08-23

Prof. Taku Nishimura from the University of Tokyo, Japan, paid a visit to the Institute of Mountain Hazards & Environment (IMHE), CAS, from 6th to 11th, August, 2013.

Prof. Xiangyu Tang introduced Yanting Agro-ecological Experimental Station of Purple Soil to Prof. Taku Nishimura.

Accompanied by Prof. Tang Xiangyu from the Key Laboratory of Mountain Surface Processes & Ecological Regulation, CAS, Prof. Taku Nishimura visited Yanting Agro-ecological Experimental Station of Purple Soil for a field excursion to the multi-scale monitoring system for hydrologic and contaminant transport processes and then delivered a lecture entitled “Transport of radioactive Cs in Fukushima soil”. After his presentation, IMHE researchers and students had heated discussions about influencing factors and the mechanisms for of colloid-facilitated transport of radioactive Csin soils.

This visit is financially support by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) under the RONPAKU (Dissertation PhD) Program. Prof. Taku Nishimura acts as the Japanese advisor and Prof. Tang Xiangyu as the home co-advisor for Guan Zhuo’s (a staff of IMHE) PhD study. Through joint supervision and intensive discussion, some constructive advice was provided for her study on “Effects of surfactant flushing on micro morphology, colloidal and hydraulic properties of diesel-polluted soils”. They also discussed further on the possibility of joint research on the related issues such as model simulation of colloid-facilitated contaminant transport via preferential flow in soil in the future. The main focus of Prof. Taku Nishimura’s work is the study of soil physical processes and climate change adaptation. To find out more, please visit http://soil.en.a.u-tokyo.ac.jp/
