Asia Pacific Youth Forum and Training Workshop 2014

Adaptation in the Mountains: Issues and Gaps beyond Boundaries

21–24 September 2014

Kathmandu, Nepal

Background

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) – through its Asia Pacific Mountain Network (APMN) – has been engaging young professionals and building their capacity to bring about positive changes in society through several initiatives.

Building on the success of these initiatives, ICIMOD, in partnership with the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) where ICIMOD serves as the thematic node on Mountain Climate Change, is now preparing for the Asia Pacific Youth Forum and Training Workshop, which will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal from 21 to 24 September 2014. The event will bring together young professionals, including scientists, early career professionals, young politicians, and youth initiative leaders from the region, and will develop their knowledge on mountain and climate change adaptation issues.

The Forum will bring together 40 participants from the Asia-Pacific region engaged in sustainability issues. With technical support from several leading institutions, the four-day programme will include capacity building and knowledge exchange sessions, leadership exercises, and excursions to nearby environmental projects.

A few outstanding young professionals from the event will be given an opportunity to participate in the 4th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum 2014 in Malaysia (1–3 October 2014), and the International Conference on Mountain People Adapting to Change in Kathmandu, Nepal (9–12 November 2014).

This forum has been made possible with support from the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) under its Sustainable Mountain Development for Global Collaboration (SMD4GC) programme, the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN), and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
