Science and Technology Demonstration Plot of Water and Soil Conservation in Dongchuan, Yunnan, approved by The Minitry of Water Resources of China (MOWR) as one of the second batch of water and soil conservation science and technology demonstration plots in March, 2009, is proceeding successfully, owing to the leader’s support of IMHE and hard work of demonstration plot. This is the second science and technology demonstration plot of water and soil conservation, MOWR belonged to IMHE.
Science and Technology Demonstration Plot of Water and Soil Conservation in Dongchuan, Yunnan locates in the river basin of south of upper Yangtze River and lower Jinsha River, as a complex soil and water conservation science and technology demonstration plot, with ordinary and extreme water and soil erosion integrated (water erosion and debris flow). This demonstration plot’s observation and research base is Dongchuan Station of Debris Flow Observation and Research (short for Dongchuan Station) and its achievement development and trial demonstration base is Xiaojiang branch of Dongchuan district Yeyatang small river basin.
Science and Technology Demonstration Plot of Water and Soil Conservation in Dongchuan, Yunnan has finished comprehensive treatment plan of Yeyatang river basin, ditch valley and ditch slope treatment, slope changed into ladder, channel construction, energy construction and optimization of rural industrial structure. Debris flow bottomland comprehensive development demonstration plot and ditch valley and ditch slope treatment demonstration plot construction have been accomplished as well as hydrological soil and sand observation, meteorologic observation and washed ditch erosion observation, etc.
At present, this demonstration plot has been opened up to the public for scientific visiting, youngster education around 4,000 person times, and awarded by Yunnan government as “Science Popularity Education Base of Yunnan Province”. The plot presents its scientific characteristics in form of science and educational film on debris flow, aperiodically disseminating scientific material, cooperation with media, academic workshop and so forth, which plays an important role in international technology communication on soil and water conservation, and offers more opportunities for cooperation between CAS and local authorities.
