IMHE Working on Mountain Floods Prevention TEXT SIZE: A A A

Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMHE) planned to construct an overall monitoring and early warning system for mountain flood control in Sichuan province by 2015.

The whole system would be set up in 50 disaster-afflicted counties of Sichuan by 2015, providing the counties with an integrated platform of data collection, disaster analysis, emergency command and information sharing to prevent mountain floods.

The frequent mountain floods in Sichuan threatened people’s lives and property. Hence the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters appealed to the flood control departments at all levels to set up the monitoring and early warning system for mountain floods control around Sichuan in 2006.

IMHE undertook the task in 2006. So far, it had designed the solutions of mountain flood control for 15 counties, setting an example for other related departments.
