National 973 Project ‘Research on Networking Observation of Natural Process Impact’ initiates in Chengdu TEXT SIZE: A A A

On 26 March, 2012, the initial meeting of National 973 project ‘Research on Networking Observation of Natural Process Impact’ held in Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS (IMHE, CAS).

During the meeting, Researcher ZHENG Xunhua introduced the basic of National 973 project’ The Key Process, Regulation and Regulate Mechanism of Earth Ecosystem in Typical River Basin -Exchange between Atmospheric Carbon and Nitrogen’. Researcher ZHU Bo, head of the first topic from IMHE, introduced the research scheme on the aspects of research content, key scientific issues need to be solved, and expected results. This topic will focus on two issues: 1. Relationship between gas exchange and nitrogen loss; 2. Natural conditions and influence factors in the formation of this relationship. As a result, research team selected five typical small river basins including source region, upstream, middle stream and downstream of Yangtze River to carry out networking observation on exchange between atmospheric carbon and nitrogen and nitrogen loss process, with the support of State Key Laboratory of Atmosphere Boundary Layer Physics and Atmospheric Chemistry, three state field stations of ecosystem system research network, one CERN station of CAS and one institute station.

Based on the origin monitoring data of exchange velocity of five species of carbon and nitrogen gas and nitrogen loss process, research team will be able to reveal the exchange mechanism of between carbon and nitrogen of earth ecosystem in small river basin, clarify the relationship between carbon and nitrogen gas exchange and nitrogen loss process and the response mechanism and drive mechanism, and analyze the spatial variation pattern. Then, five topic heads reported the implementation plan of each topic respectively.

In the process of discussion and exchange, the specialists put forward some constructive suggestions, and had in-depth discussions.

Research team will further perfect the implementation scheme by absorbing specialists’ suggestion. The project was supposed to provide evidence for National 973 Project ‘Model Construction and Multi-objective Comprehensive Control Countermeasures for Carbon and Nitrogen in River Basin’, and provide technological support for China to adapt to carbon emission reduction pressure under global climate change and improve earth ecosystem management.

After the initial meeting, specialists investigated Yanting Purple Soil agro-ecological Experiment Station, CAS.

ZHENG Xunhua, chief scientist of the project, researcher from Institute of Atmosphere Physics, CAS, researcher ZHAO Xinquan, director of Chengdu Institute of Biology, CAS, researcher DENG Wei, director of IMHE, and researcher CUI Peng from IMHE attended the meeting. Researcher WEN Anbang, vice director of IMHE, hosted the meeting.
