IMHE Developed a New Early Warning Methods of Debris Flow TEXT SIZE: A A A
Long period of heavy rainfall is the main trigger factor for debris flow.Rainfall-induced debris flow is the most common debris flow, and it has strong correlations with rainfall conditions.
People used to set up a critical rainfall condition in given debris flow areas as the threshold for judging the happening of debris flow. The determination of the threshold was based on two triggers, one is the threshold of antecedent rainfall amount, and the other is threshold of intensity and lasting time of rainfall. But the old method has two flaws. First, critical rainfall amount cannot be defined exactly, and second, computational method is very complicated.
In view of the existing technology insufficiency, IMHE Researcher Hu Kaiheng developed a new early warning method of debris flow recently. This method makes data processing simple, easy-to-use and helpful in comparing and analyzing. The method has practical value and has been applied to early warning of debris flow in a specific area.

This method has gained national patent and the number is 201010209738.0.
