Invited by Prof. DENG Wei and WANG Genxu, Prof. Vigdis Vandvik, and Prof. Kari Klanderud, from University of Bergen, Norway, gave reports in Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMHE) on Sep. 9th, 2010.

Prof. Vigdis Vandvik gave a report entitled “The role of seeds in a changing climate linking germination ecophysiology to population and community ecology”. She mainly introduced the Seedclim project supported by Research Council of Norway. It focused on population and community characteristics responses to climate change through seed germination and seedling recruitment.

Prof. Kari Klanderud gave a report entitled “climate change effects on alpine plant communities”. She introduced their group studies on alpine community ecology to climate change (supported by international ITEX project) in Finse Research Station. Prof. Kari briefly introduced other latest research obtained by their group.

At last, active academic exchanges and in-depth discussion were developed between attendants and Norwegian scientists.
