CHEN Shuqun, a professor from the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, LIU Ruihuang, a land planning specialist from National Chung Hsing University, and ZHUANG Hongren, Director of investment from Foxconn Technology Group visited Chengdu Mountain Hazards and Environment Institute on September 21st, 2009.
The delegation had a heated discussion on the formation mechanism, monitoring and forecasting theories and prevention theory of debris flow with researchers in the key laboratory of mountain hazards and earth surface process. WEI Fangqiang, Deputy Director of IMHE presided over the meeting.
ZHUANG said in his speech that the purpose of coming here is to exchange with researchers on monitoring and forecasting theories, prevention theory of debris flow and relief and reconstruction experience and help victims of the Taiwan “8.8 typhoon”. CHEN gave an account of monitoring, forecasting and prevention work in Taiwan and “Morakot Typhoon”. WEI made a detailed introduction to the research progress of debris flow by IMHE includes prevention theory, monitoring and forecasting theories and the development of new equipment. Prof. YOU Yong, CHENG Zunlan and ZHAO Yu introduced the progress of prevention work of debris flow respectively. They had a discussion on hazard monitoring and prevention system, prevention work of glacier and debris flow and location of settlements. They all expressed wishes to strengthen cooperation and work together to mountain hazards research.
After meeting, experts inspected Beichuan earthquake remains, Tangjiashan dammed lake and earthquake-induced mountain hazards observation station. There they were shown around the progress of 973 Project “the Formation Mechanism and Risk Control of Wenchuan Earthquake-induced Mountain Hazards”, accompanied by CUI Peng, Director of Key Laboratory of Mountain Hazards and Earth Surface Process.
