The workshop on Change and Development of China’s Mountain Environment was held in Yunnan Normal University (YNU) located in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province on April 24-30, 2011.

 
 Workshop on Change and Development of China’s Mountain Environment Held in Kunming
The workshop was co-held by YNU and Geographical Society of China with the aim of advancing mountain science development and promoting discipline construction and talents training. Prof. MING Qingzhong from YNU took the chair at the work–hop.

The workshop attracted about 60 attendees who exchanged views on a range of topics, including formation and ecology of mountainous rivers, formation and prevention of mountain disasters, global climate change and its impact on mountain environment change, exploitation and protection of mountain resources, sustainable development of mountainous areas and regional poverty alleviation.

YNU vice president LI Songlin introduced YNU’s glorious history, claiming that YNU would continue the efforts in mountain research. LI, together with deputy director of Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, confirmed the significance of mountain research in socio-economic development of China.

After the workshop, the attendees took field inspection in southwest mountainous regions of Baoshan city and Dali city of Yunnan province.
