As a yearly routine training program, a library and journal resources and service training to the newcomers including the new staffs, and newly admitted postgraduate and doctoral students of the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMHE) was held on August 30th, 2012. The training program was organized by the Information Center and the Personnel Affair Department of IMHE.
Prof. Qiu Dunlian, the chief of the Information Center and the executive editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Mountain Science (English Edition) (abbreviated as JMS), made an introduction on the Information Center, and its duties and responsibilities as a support department of the institute, including literature information resources construction and service, and academic journal editing and publishing. She made a detailed presentation on the JMS about its international editorial teams, the development and progress, the increasing impact in academic circles around the world. Besides, she introduced the manuscript processing procedure of this journal, and especially stressed the points that authors should pay special attention to when they are preparing and submitting manuscripts.
Prof. Cheng Yihong, librarian of the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) showed the attendees what a modern library can provide and can do in our study and research, and what kinds of literature information resources and service the NSLC possess and provide. Then Associate Professor Guo Meiju, librarian of the Information Center, introduced the literature resources, information tools, and service that the staffs and students of IMHE can make use of. Finally, Prof. Xie Hong, the executive editor-in-chief of the Journal of Mountain Science (Chinese Edition) made an introduction on this journal and about the author guidelines.
Totally about 80 participants attended the training program. According to the post-training survey results, the attendees highly praised this training and suggested more training programs be held in the future specifically on the retrieval skills of several important literature databases and the scientific writing of research papers.
