The international symposium of IAHS-ICCE in 2012 was successfully held during 11th to 15th, October, 2012 in Chengdu city, Sichuan province. The theme of the Symposium is "Erosion and sediment yields in the changing environment". The sponsor organization was the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS (IMHE), the supporting organization were the Chinese academic of sciences and the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization. More than 80 scholars from about 20 countries attended this international symposium, such as the USA, Canada, England, Germany, India, France, Australia, Poland, New Zealand, Russia, Norway, Italy, Finland, Singapore, South-Africa and so on. The vice-president of the IMHE, professor Wei Fangqiang, the vice chairman of the IAHS-ICCE, professor Zhang Xinbao, the vice-section chief of science and technique, professor Xiong Donghong and the vice-section chief of academic communication center, vice professor Zhang Ning were attended this international symposium.
On behalf of IMHE and the IAHS-ICCE, the vice president of Wei Fanqiang and the chairman of IAHS-ICCE, professor Valentin Golosov, gave the welcome speeches. They fully affirmed the scientific gains of the ICCE and successfully congratulated to the 2012 IAHS-ICCE international symposium. The famous scientist of international hydrology and sediment, professor Des Walling, the chairman of IAHS-ICCE, professor Valentin Golosov, the professor Lu Xixi of the national Singapore and the section chief of soil and water department, professor He Xiubin were all gave the keynotes speeches about “The role of dams in the global sediment budget”, “Redistribution of sediment and sediment-associated contaminants in the River Chern basin during the last 50 years”,“Delineation of China’s reservoirs and lakes using remote sensing techniques”,“Impacts of eco-restoration on suspended sediment load in the upper Yangtze River of China”,respectively. Meanwhile, the 53 scholars were all gave speeches of soil erosion, sediment characters, global changes and remote sensing and so on.

The ICCE is one of ten commissions of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS). The field of interests of the ICCE may be broadly defined as including the erosion, transport and deposition of sediment and the interaction of these processes with other components of the environment. The international symposium of ICCE is held every two years.
