On 27 March 2023, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Chinese Committee on ICIMOD (CNICIMOD) was joint hold the Partner Consultation Meeting to synchronize institutional strategies and actions for collaborations between ICIMOD and Chinese partners in context of ICIMOD Strategy 2030 and Preliminary Work Plan of CNICIMOD.

More than 90 experts and scholars from two parties met in Chengdu to co-developing and co-planning joint activities.

WU Yan, Deputy Director, Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, said in the conference's opening ceremony that CAS will be more than ready to share good practices, conduct joint research with ICIMOD and Regional Member Countries. She said “We have reached consensus on advancing our cooperative relationship and jointly building a sustainable HKH region. This is a critical point in time to synchronize strategies and actions for collaborations between ICIMOD and Chinese partners in context of ICIMOD Strategy 2030 and Future Plan of CNICIMOD.”

LI Qingfeng, Deputy Director-General, Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province, said the Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province will keep supporting industry-academy-research collaborating institutions to promote international cooperation with international organizations, and make new contributions to scientific and technological collaborative innovation and regional sustainable development!

“What we've planned here with partners in China is of great significance, and we have an opportunity to make a difference in the HKH region. We seek inputs from China not only for our cooperation between China and ICIMOD but also for the HKH region as a whole!” - Pema Gyamtsho, Director General of ICIMOD speaking at opening ceremony.

The conference had 7 keynote speeches and 5 parallel group discussions focused on Managing Cryosphere and Water Risks; Stimulating Action for Clean Air; Adapting and Transforming Livelihoods and Economies;.Restoring and Regenerating Landscapes; Enabling Regional and Global Mechanisms for Sustainable Action.
