On 10-11 July, The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) organized a two-day Regional Consultation Workshop on Sustainable Human Settlements in Mountain Regions in Kathmandu, Nepal, which built on the work of existing interventions on Sustainable Human Mountain Settlement with the aim of “assessing key challenges and opportunities for sustainability in mountain human settlements”. More than 30 government officials and scientists from ICIMOD the eight regional member countries of the Hindu Kush Himalayas attended the Consultation Workshop. 

Prof. FANG Yiping, Assoc. Prof. ZHANG Jifei and Assoc. Prof. ZHANG Jianqiang at IMHE were invited to participate in this Consultation Workshop. Prof. Fang gave a lecture entitled “Toward Greener and Resilience Mountain Settlements: An Overview of IMHE’s Efforts”. In his talk, Prof. Fang briefly introduced the key research fields and major missions of IMHE. Then, he exhibited systematically the types of mountain settlements based on different benchmarks such as altitude, climate, production, ethnic, interference etc., and showed the changes in research focuses from settlement profile to settlement resilience of mountain settlements. Furthermore, he illustrated the previous and ongoing works on mountain settlements in IMHE. Finally, the potential research priority areas and cooperation opportunities between ICIMOD and IMHE also have been addressed.
