I. Background and Objective

In today’s world, with ever-increasing globalization, the competition and cooperation among countries and regions in energy, resources, science and technology, economy, etc. are being constantly strengthened. The establishment of China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre on Earth Sciences (hereafter called “CPJRC”) will play a critical role in promoting academic and scientific exchange and collaboration between Pakistan and China.

CPJRC, which is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, is to join efforts of both Chinese and Pakistani scientists to carry out scientific research on natural disasters, environment, geology, ecology, climate change and sustainable development in Pakistan, especially along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

With this insight and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between China and Pakistan, CPJRC is planning to launch the China-Pakistan High-Level Webinar on Earth Sciences Cooperation with the theme of Sustainable Development of CPEC: Vision for China-Pakistan Science and Technology Cooperation in Earth Sciences on 18 March, 2021. The Webinar is to highlight and discuss the priority areas and existing research/development gaps in the field of earth sciences and will provide a platform on which scientists from both China and Pakistan can join hands in addressing the priority areas in the field of Earth sciences and filling in the gaps with positive input while young geoscientists could enhance their capacity-building.
