International Mountain Forum

Mountains account for more than 25% of the global land area and are rich in global water resources, biological resources, mineral resources, hydropower resources, drugs, and fuel resources. About 15% of the worlds population lives in mountainous areas, and more than 50% of the population depends on mountainous areas for survival and life. Mountains are the resource guarantee area and strategic high ground for global sustainable development and green high-quality development. To further raise public awareness of the importance of mountains for biodiversity conservation, highlight the necessity of the sustainable development perspective in mountainous regions, actively explore major bottlenecks  in the modernization of mountainous areas, propose scientific solutions and key technologies for problem-solving, strengthen the construction of a scientific and technological achievement application, demonstration, and promotion system in mountainous regions, continuously enhance the capacity and benefits of transferring and transforming scientific and technological achievements, and contribute to the creation of safe, resilient, green, and sustainable mountainous areas. Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, CAS is organizing the "International Mountain Forum" in Chengdu from November 11-15, 2024.
