UNEP/GEF Project “Nature Conservation and Flood Control in the Yangtze River Basin”, undertook by Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMHE, CAS) passed final evaluation on September 25, 2011. 

The evaluation meeting was presided over by Mr. A Yan, project manager from Ministry of Environmental Protection of China (MEP). Over 30 experts from Beijing Normal University, Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Technology and IMHE, CAS attended the meeting.

This project was launched in May, 2006. By now, the anticipant goal of this project has been achieved, including key eco-system function evaluation work, ecological function protection area zoning in upper Yangtze River and developed a whole set of eco-service evaluation software.

During the meeting, Chief Scientist WANG Yukuan, Dr. FU Bin and Dr. Cheng Wuxue gave a detailed presentation on research progress, achievement and promotion. Experts highly approved the research progress and agreed that the anticipant goal of this project has been achieved, especially made innovation, scientificity and practicability in the research methods and technology, and realize visualization and spatialization of eco-service function evaluation. Experts agreed that this project will offer scientific evidence and technique guide for the protection and reconstruction of the ecosystem healthy of Yangtze River Basin.
