Both the Biodiversity and the climate change are major issues of global concern. Research on the coupling function of the climate change and the biodiversity is very important for local government to make related policies, adaption to climate change, and preservation of biodiversity. The project of “Sino-Norwegian Biodiversity and Climate Change” co-funded by the government of China and Norway, jointly implemented by Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection of China and The Environment and Natural Resource Sector of Norway, took Sichuan province which is one of global biodiversity hotspots as the research area to carry out the study on biodiversity and climate change, and established Strategies and Action Plans of Climate Change - Biodiversity for Sichuan Province.

The program undertaken by a research team headed by researcher WANG Yukuan, from Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMHE, CAS). They have obtained some periodical achievements in ecological infrastructure survey and the gap analysis of nature preservation areas for Sichuan province. At the Technical Workshop of Sino- Norwegian Biodiversity and Climate Change Project held in Beijing, IMHE forwarded a report named “Ecological Infrastructure Investigation Survey and the Gap Analysis of Nature Preservation Areas for Sichuan”, which was highly appraised by Ministry of Commerce of China, Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, Norwegian Embassy in China and so on. These achievements evaluated the ecological service function and natural preservations areas of Sichuan province by utilizing landscape ecology theory, analyzed the ecological communication by international advanced ecological model, put forward key biological corridors and priority areas of ecological function conservation for Sichuan province, furthermore, these achievements provide the important scientific basis and guidance for Sichuan province to make strategy of adaptation to climate change and biodiversity preservations for Sichuan province.
